Some showresults 28-29.6.2008

Järvenpää is a small little city near us, just 24 km far from. There was 2 NAT shows during this weekend.
I had two of my boys with on Saturday to Paula Heikkinen-Lehkonen (Hula & Hupi) and also two of them on Sunday to Garry Dryburgh, (Tezer-Whippets), Australia, (Luxi & Hupi).

They say "every GOOD dog has also G:s in his/hers results" and that is very much true. In early days when I was competing with my Basenjis, my Kino (Ch Kenzongos Kinongo) was in one weekend BIS-1 and next gained just VG. This weekend it was Hula´s turn to take G, blue ribbon.
Every judge has his own taste and when someone is looking "just type" someone emphasizes details. When someone is after "daisy cutting action" in movement, someone else is after soundess, expression and/or elegance.

One thing which is above all to me in showing dogs is the THING; "you never know" and that keeps my interest alerted! Today there is no according to the rules in Whippets in the showring; like we had few years ago. Ch Bohem Flight Time or Ch Terra Bella I´m Redee, true Whippets which were trotting from one win to another.

Such a many types, such a many Whippets in rings today. Like in my pack, six of them, they all are very different in type. Somehow I also think that the versatile is the richness in our breed. If someone asks my opinion, I would say that I want to keep it like this.

Ofcourse there is a breed standard; but there are also many different tastes in breeding -and also in judging. Me; I want -and try- to be as open as possible to all different types and find their best parts. I am very much after soundness and balance; which I find the most important things in our breed!
I also want to find Whippet standing in his every feet soundly and balanced. What comes after that; smooth movement with some details perhaps; beautiful head and carriage; that is just extra, cream over cake.
In this posting I will enclose a pic from Leyendas Happy Days which I took today in Järvenpää ring. She is very nice looking AND standing nicely in her every feet.

Something which has delighted my day lately is one new Swedish import from Merci Isle; Merci Isle Second Dawn. What a stunning young male, I wait a lot from this youngster! Could you ask more from a 9 mths old male? His picture can be found here.


Trying to translate Hula´s and Hupi´s criticues here judged on Saturday by Paula Heikkinen-Lehkonen:
Hula, Carry On Ramblin´Man:
"Short bodied male. Strict shoulder and upperarm. Good depth & volume of brisket. A bit heavy in condition. Short loin. His backstep is lacking strength. Good length of head, but muzzle could be more filled. A bit light in boneing and has a bit weak pasterns. Is acting a bit unwilling today."

Hupi, Twyborn Philadelphia:
"Big and strong male. His overall look is a bit heavy because he is too fat. His boneing is a bit strong, too. His scull is quite wide. Beautiful, long lines. Good angulations in front & rear. Beautifully arched back. His overall impact is too strongly built."

"Good breed type. Large. Good head. I would prefer better front with better turn of upper arm. Good topline & underline. Restricted when moving. Flicking pasterns."

We have a new familymember!

Welcome to our pack Canon S5 IS! I´ve waited so long to have a GOOD camera, and now my dream became true!
It will take some time to know all the details in picturing with it, but I´ll learn, at least I hope so!


Here is one pic when I´ve just opened the camerabox and showing it to Hupi. Hupi is smelling the new camera carefully and thinking perhaps; "No, again! It means more and more pictures.. Usually from me!" ;D

And next day -actually today- we were running again in our local, huge dogpark and I took one quite nice pic ab. Hupi enjoying himself lying on clovers.

In Finland we have this thing called JUHANNUS!

Keskikesän juhla, Juhannus, on kalenteriin 20.6. kirjattu juhla, jolloin tulee joko matkustaa maalle tai vaihtoehtoisesti jäädä kaupunkiin. Samaa asiaa harrastetaan kuitenkin niin maalla kuin kaupungissakin; istutaan ulkona, nautitaan likööriä ja grillataan makkaraa.

Makaronilaatikot ja pizzat saavat väistyä valinta-altaista kun kauppiaat kautta Suomen ovat hyvissä ajoin tilanneet kuorman jos toisenkin juhannusmakkaroita. Normigrillimakkara ei ole enää mitään, vaan pitää olla tomaatti-mozzarella-chili-valkosipuli-aurajuustoa höystettynä Turun Sinapilla!

Tulikeppien tiristessä hiilloksella nautitaan pehmeistä liköörien aromeista samalla kun yhdessätuumin parannetaan maailmaa. Tämän juhannuksen hitti oli Werther´s Original -uute sekä vanha tuttu mustikkashotti!
Edellisen juhannuksen tapaan Kenzolassa istui iltaa sekalainen kööri, joita kaikkia yhdisti WHIPPET!

What a show - what a birthday present!

Today I took Hula & Hupi to Forssa INT. Judge was Kari Järvinen, Finland. After few res-CC´s we; Hupi & I, finally took the qualifying CC!!! Hupi is now titled Fin Ch & Fin JW-05 Twyborn Philadelphia!

Tjaa, Indin luonne?
Lueskelin taannoin blogistasi ulkoilijaprofiileja ja tunnistin Indin Hupin profiilista. Isänsä poika, huvittavuuteen asti. Aina ekana ja hihna kireellä, erityisesti kun ollaan "koko lauma" liikenteessä. Hyvä esimerkki on ruohonsyöntimanööverit, jotka rhodesialaisellani, Tinkalla, on varsin hillityt: ruoholle vedetään päämäärätietoisesti, mutta sitten jämähdetään siihen yhteen tuppaaseen, josta tarkasti valikoiden hamuillaan ne tietyt kriteerit täyttävät korret. Ajan kanssa.

Indi sen sijaan -laumamme pysähdyttyä ruohopysäkille - kartoittaa tilanteen sekunnissa ja on poikkeuksetta sitä mieltä, että ruoho on hihnanmitan ulkopuolella vihreämpää. Kaula väärällään ja reisilihakset pullistellen se sitten yrittää ylettyä niihin "parempiin" tupaksiin, vaikka ulottuvilla olisi monta neliömetriä emännän mielestä ihan kelpo rehua. Indi on myös ns. sykyilijä (Pohjois-Karjalaa), eli sinkoilee estoitta tien laidalta toiselle kiinnostavien hajujen tai havaintojen perässä. Epäilemättä myös koulutuksen/emännän laiskuuden puutetta. Kaiken - siis kaiken- liikkuvan se huomaakin, ja kiihtyy nollasta sataan alta sekunnin. Mm. oravan kynsien rapina männyn kaarnalla saa sen aivan tolaltaan. Usein sen voi huomata jähmettyvän hetkeksi kuin kuunnellakseen oliko joku ripsaus ehkä orava ylhäällä latvustossa?


Kuten isänsäkin, Indikin ehtii imuroida teiden varsilta kaiken suuhun mahtuvan käytetyistä kortsuista nenäliinoihin. Nämä nielaistaan heti tai tapetaan ja nielaistaan, mutta onneksi tähän asti kaikki "talletukset" on tulleet melko vaivattomasti myös ulos. Myöskin tarpeiden tekoon kuulosti Hupilla olevan samanlainen suhtautuminen kuin Indillä; kyykistytään kun aika tulee. Se voi olla kotiportin viereen tai keskelle jalkakäytävää, mutta ympäristö ei häiritse poijjaan toimitusta, toisin kuin esim. Tinkaa, joka varmistaa huolella ja vaikka pitkänkin matkaa pidättämällä, että maasäteily on täsmälleen oikeanlaista, ennen kuin kyykistyy katseilta piiloon ojanpohjalle tai pusikkoon. Ja omille kintuilleen Indi lorottelee aivan huoletta, suihku suuntaa vähän sinne ja tänne koska toimituksenkin aikana täytyy ympäristöä tietenkin tarkkailla. Joskus se huomaa itsekin kun osuu oikein huolella itseään etujalkaan ja saattaa nostaa etujalan pois tieltä, eli seisoo kahdella jalalla. Taitava poika, sanon minä. Jos Tinka jää kotisohvalle, Indistä kuoriutuu herrasmiehen alku, joka huomattavasti kohteliaammin seurailee emäntää ja silloin tällöin jopa jolkottaa lähes takavasemmalla (jolloin väistämättä tulee mieleen, että onko se sairas..).


Tammikuun viimeisestä viikosta huhtikuun viimeiseen viikkoon Indillä oli ajokoiravaihe, jolloin wipulle normaalin saalisvietin lisäksi koirasta löytyi aimo annos riistaviettiä. Mitkä tahansa jäljet (erityisesti jäniksen) hangella nostivat koiran kierrokset taivaisiin hetkessä ja sinne se paineli kimakasti haukkuen. Jäljille pimenevään talvi-iltaan. Tämä oli minun mielestäni erittäin epätoivottava piirre ja oman turvallisuutensa (ja minun mielenrauhan) takaamiseksi Indi ulkoili kolme kuukautta flexissä metsälenkeillä. Ajanjakso, joka sai minut suuresti arvostamaan vapaana ulkoilutettavien koirien helppoutta ja hankkiutumaan kanta-asiakkaaksi Yliopiston apteekkiin jatkuvan Mobilat-tarpeen vuoksi. Flexikäsi ja hartiat ovat vieläkin jumissa. Lumien sulettua hävisi (kop, kop, kop) tämä taipumus ja nyt saamme taas nauttia lenkkeilystä. Ajokoirailusta jäi kylläkin taipumus hortoilla vähän kauempana emännästä kuin ennen, mutta korvat ovat tallella ja pullottavista taskuista löytyvien lahjusten ansioista Indi pysyy nyt kiitettävästi kuulolla. Ja nyt Indi hoitaakin tiedustelijan virkaa varmistamalla edellä, että reitti on selvä.


Muutoin, näiden "hupimaisuuksien" lisäksi Indi on minusta luonteeltaan hirmu kiva. Se on arkielämässä hyvähermoinen ja peloton, ei hötkyile puoleen eikä toiseen, on erittäin nöyrä ihmiselle ja osoittaa kiintymyksensä hyvin hillitysti häntää huiskauttamalla ja jalkoja hieraisemalla. Ei ole pusukone eikä sylikoira. Tulee mm. lattialla telkkua katsellessani usein viereen makoilemaan ja laittaa etutassun omistavasti minun jalan päälle, joka -mitä lie sitten tarkoittaakaan- on minusta hellyyttävää. Koska se ei pussaa, sille on varmasti suotu enemmän puhumisen lahjoja kuin muille whippeteille ja Indillä onkin kattava varasto suullisia ilmaisuja, joista yhdestä tulikin ihan kuvallinen näyte tuossa. Tutuille vastaantulijoille Indi juttelee jo matkan päästä ja -ilmeisesti kuten Hupikin- laulaa lurauttaa VOUVOUVOUn.


Tuota ulvomista kuunnellessaan Piia kysyikin 17.5. tavatessamme, että tekeekö se samaa kotiin jäädessään. Ja yksi Indin vakaan luonteen osoituksista onkin minusta se, että se jää ihan sovinnolla yksin kotiin. Siis kun lähden Tinkan kanssa jonnekin. Toki meillä on sovittu rutiini, eli ensin käytetään Indi ja sitten lähdetään vasta Tinkan kanssa ulos, mutta se oppi tämän hyvin nopeasti ja tietää mitä tapahtuu, eli jää olohuoneen matolle katsomaan kuinka me Tinkan kanssa mennään ovesta ulos eikä pyöri stressaantuneena ovella. Tämä onkin harjoittelun tuloksena pienimuotoinen riemuvoitto, sillä Indi ei ole enää aikoihin osoittanut stressaantumisen merkkejä "lukemalla" Hesareita yksin ollessaan.Agility on meillä ohjelmassa taas nyt kesällä. Viime kesänä opeteltujen esteiden kertaus ja pikkuhiljaa ratamuotoista opettelua. Indi kuuntelee vallan hienosti - ja suorastaan liikuttavan vakavalla naamalla - ohjeistusta :).

Hupikids had a Super Sunday!

Sundays seems to be made for Hupikids. Remembering that I have wrote once before similar headline in my blog. ;D
Yesterday we had our Finnish Whippetclub´s Specialty show in Forssa, Mustiala. Total amount of bitches were 69 and in males 55! (puppies 6 + 13)

Judge for bitches were Iva Kimmelman, USA from Merci Isle -Whippets. Susanne Oschinski, Germany, Whipcat -Whippets judged males.

And what a success Hupi´s kids had! I am happy to tell that first in bitches juniorclass (17 of them) Jagodas Gingembre, Tuikku, (Twyborn Philadelphia x Aaniston An Outstanding Filly) won her class and ended up BIS-junior being Best Bitch 4th with CC!
Tuikku´s critique: "Beautiful balance & shape. Extremely excellent condition. Very sound coming & going. Beautiful sidegait. Lovely head & expression."

In open class Gaselle´s Greatest Hits, Kenia, (Twyborn Philadelphia x Gaselle´s La Scala) won her class (10 of them) and ended up BOS-young! Kenia´s critique: "Beautiful head & expression. Very sound coming and going. Lovely shape and balance. Lovely sidegait."


BIS Pojanrinteen Pandora BOS Best-Looking Brooklyn

But what happened in males?! Nothing less than Best-Looking Brooklyn, Leevi, won first his class (9 males), ended up Best Male 1st, took CC and was BIS-young and BOS!!!! Leevi´s critique: "1 year & 10 mths old. Very attractive male. Pretty head and expression. Long, strong neck. Lovely shape. Well angulated from behind. Nice, low hocks. Lovely condition. Moves very well from all sides. A bit narrow behind. But has good drive."

Last but not least, in puppyclass (males 5-7 mths) Miyessa Aslanthelion (Twyborn Philadelphia x Belltown Blackballet) was 3rd with HP, what a nice result to this little puppy!

1.6.2008 our Whippetclub´s Specialty was held in Forssa, Mustiala. Judges for males was Susanne Oschinski, Germany. (Whipcat)

5 of my boys were shown and with nice results & criticues.

First Luxi, Monetblue, competed in intermediate class. Here is his critique:
"Very pretty dog. Lovely head & expression. Strong neck. Topline is ok. Very straight in front but well angulated behind. Nice, low hocks. Moves unstabile coming and going. Would like to see more drive and reach in sidegait."

Next I showed Hula, Carry On Ramblin´Man and Hupi, Twyborn Philadelphia in open class.

Hula´s critique:
"Very nice male of good size. Good head & expression. Lovely neck. Good shape. Well angulated from behind. Moves well from all sides but the tailcarriage on movement is a bit funny."

Hupi´s critique:
"Masculine and attractive dog. Nice head and expression. A little bit big ears. Nice neck. Very nice shape. Well angulated front & behind. Stands over a lot of ground. Moves very well from all sides. Could have a little bit more reach and is loosing a bit topline on the move."

In open class my both boys were selected to continue their competition in second round but were not placed.

In champion class I showed Viri, Scheik´s Comando. His critique:

"Nice masculine dog with masculine head and nice expression. The eyes could be bigger. Strong neck. Nice shape. Well angulated from behind. Very good hindquarters. In lovely condition. Moves well from all sides. He could have a little bit more drive."

And finally I showed my 10-year old veteran Lelu, Zootsuits Night Flights who had really fun in class running like a "barwaxan-style german shepherd"!

Lelu´s critique:
"10 year old elegant male. Nice head & expression. Nice neck. Nice shape. A bit straight front & behind. Moves well and is still happy to be shown."

We enjoyed our day so much and want to thank everyone who made this show so well organized. Also huge thanks goes to Heli who helped me in open class showing Hula so nicely and beautifully!

Gema wins!

I´ve received some magnificent news from Lithuania! Gema, Bicolour Tourmaline Dominija (Twyborn Philadelphia x Boxing Helena´s Coral Gem) was shown in Alytys NAT 17.5.2008. She gained her 7th CC and ended up BOB, BIG-1 & BIS-4!! Judge was Andrzey Szutkiewicz from Poland.

HUGE congratulations to you girls; Asta & Gema! You made us so proud!
